Promoting New Idea and shampoo

We are promoting the latest issue of New Idea magazine which is packaged with free Pantene shampoo and conditioner in several places in-store including this prime counter position.  While the package is a challenge to display, we have made it work to leverage the opportunity for maximum sales … and sell it has!  This counter location works the best because of the sep shelving we have in this position.

Unlike supermarkets where magazines are whacked into a pocket, we have thought about how to treat not only New Idea but other titles with gifts so that we can maximise sales and respect the product.

New Idea must think West Australians are the great unwashed and therefore neglected to send the shampoo. Ive just got boring old New Idea’s no attachments no plastic wrap. They do sit on the shelf well though.

Steve I’d hardly call it boring based on national sales.

I was referring to my unadorned magazines compared to your’s with extra added shampoo not the contents or quality of the publication

Steve – no disrespect here to you – make something of it. Make a good display. Okay we got shampoo and conditioner. I am sure WA newsagents get promotions we do not get sometimes.

New Idea is a terrific title with excellent sales.

Its all good unless customers finds out about it. With the number of new idea customers out there if they start asking were their shampoo is (and I don’t Know) it can turn into a long week.

It would be nice to get the same promos as the East, especially as it does get customers cross when they see a mag advertised with an add-on but we don’t get it.

The last two weeks I’ve had guys asking me where the DVD is that comes with the Zoo. Apparently there was advertising to say it was on the magazine. No DVDs though, at least not in WA.

Perhaps a bigger problem though is that we don’t get some of your Friday mags until Monday.

A prime example being Who Weekly. I loved the displays you blogged with the Whitney covers. Would be nice to have the weekend to sell them as you do over east.

Here it tends to get swamped by the Womans Day and New Idea when they all arrive on Monday. If Who were to go digital, we’d lose the customer’s who buy it as we’d be three days behind when they could buy it online.

The thing is, Australia is a huge country and freight costs are high. I don’t think that publishers set out to upset or let down people. They have to live with the practicalities of distance.

I don’t think distance had anything to do with it. I am in NSW and did not receive anything with my New Idea

Clearly it’s time for a Perth based weekly like NI/WD

I was under the impression that the shampoo attached to the New Idea was only distributed to Newsagencies that signed on to the Nexus program through Gorden and Gotch
