Newsagents concerned about rejection of magazine returns

I’ve heard of some newsagents having magazine returns claims rejected recently. If this has happened to you I suggest you get onto it right away, find out what it’s happened and fix whatever has to be fixed to stop it happening. Whether it’s your newsagency software or your operational processes, complaining to the distributor is not going to resolve the situation since they have data for thousands of newsagents and can point to success among the majority in saying your problem is local to you and just a few others.

I had a rejection last year of thousands of dollars but I had a SIGNED book from the
carriers who collect the returns and all was
    ok.
It is imperative that you get a signature from the carrier concerned and put the no of parcels and their shipping no (for NDC)
clearly on the page and don’t take “we’re too busy for that” for an answer.

Unbelievably, after writing the above I was
reading my emails and saw that Network had sent me an email telling me that my physical returns have not been received.
I followed the above procedure and hopefully it will be ok but it is amazing howthis could have happened today.
Yesterday GG were an invoice light and included in the invoice were 8 putaways that are now not available from GG.
When I told the carrier company that the invoice was missing (with my name on it by the way) I was told to put a credit through to GG and maybe they could replace the stock – THEY COULDN’T AND I NOW AM FACED WITH NEWSAGENCY SHOPPING TO GET THE 8 ARTICLES FOR THE PEOPLE (iNCLUDING A LARGE LIBRARY ACCOUNT)
I am just so fed up with this lackadaisical attitude of both the distributors (GG and Network) and I wonder how the publishers must feel about this below par
performance from them week after week after week

We send our returns via registered Aust post and still get problems but they cannot argue with delivery signatures on their end. It costs a bit but when we are talking thousands of dollars in returns each month you do not want to get caught. simply reducing supply to sellable levels would avoid huge returns.
