A lesson in gift placement and brands

We put in  these dangle characters a week ago and for four days did not sell one. That’s not unusual as products take time to be found. A space need saw us move them and we sold almost all our stock in two days. The new location worked better for this type of gift. They appealed to people who love Batman and Superman or those who buy gifts for the fans.

With newsagencies being such general stores, my sense is that shoppers will spend less time on a treasure hunt whereas my experience in a specialist gift shop is that shoppers will spend more time on a treasure hunt. This is why gift placement is important for newsagencies and why we need to keep our products on the move. It’s also why brand is important for us.

We had a range of Bar Signs that sold one here and there. We moved them recently and sold 8 in the 1st week at the new location. We are constantly moving stock.

I have just started getting into a better range of gifts which I bought on line. I cleared a messy stand right next to counter and put in Glass shelves and another one near the cards. Price range from $3 to $99.00 and have almost sold out. I have just got more in this morning. I have now been convinced to go to the Sydney Gift Fair. The big smoke from my little town. Now that’s scary!

Carol, put a stand of Beanie Boos (from Big Balloon) at your entrance, we too are selling lots more giftware but our biggest earner for the last few months has been these cute little critters.
