New Lottoland ad continues to mock newsagents

Lottoland is running a new TV commercial in Australia. The new ad continues their narrative that newsagents are out of touch. I think this ad denigrates the channel.

Lottoland should focus on the features of their offer instead of attacking one of the outlets through which competitor products are available.

That is what is most interesting about the Lottoland pitch, they are not taking on Tatts, they are not taking on On The Run or other convenience stores. No, they are taking on newsagents by mocking us. I suspect this is because they see newsagents as an easy target who won;t fight back.

If I had lotteries in my business I’d be hoping Tatts would support me with a campaign promoting newsagents in a more positive light than shown in the Lottoland ads.

Yes Mark I think you are right in that they are mocking Newsagents, but I reckon they recognise Newsagents as their major competitor and they are trying to take sales from Newsagents. Like Tatts do.
On this subject I had a customer bring in a lotto ticket to collect a prize yesterday. He had bought his ticket from us two days earlier. It had ALREADY been paid in to his account 2 days after the draw. The customer has an online account with Tatts.
This is just taking away from us a valuable opportunity for us to interact with OUR customer, and possibly sell him another Lotto entry. An important aspect of this story is the fact that the customer only usually buys in the bigger draws. So with the draws being small now for the next few weeks, Tatts can work on him to buy his next entry from them direct. I won’t see him! Two Days after the draw! Two days.
I realise that Tatts need to build their online presence to protect themselves, but MORE SUPPORT for their franchisees is required. With many Newsagencies closing down, I wonder if Tatts have given up on the channel.

Billy, Credit Suisse agrees with you their analysis reports about tatts. They say tatts should provide better support for and compensation to their retail network.

My question has always been and will be – why are newsagents FORCED to upgrade their corporate image at such an UNREASONABLE cost while Tatts drive sales online (which they are entitled to do)?
Retailers invest for ROI – this ROI is completely unfair.

If Tatts encourages customers to purchase Lotto online, soon they will have to confront Lottoland. I don’t think Tatts can compete Lottoland, not even near. Lottoland is a giant whereas Tatts is a dwarf.

What I dont get is why Tatts aren’t spending up big on lobbying state and federal governments to outlaw Lottoland completly. Maybe target Nick Xenophon to include a ban on it in that online gambling reform bill he is spruking…
