Newspaper publisher gives and then (by stealth) takes

Coinciding with the recent newspaper home delivery fee changes announced by the Herald and Weekly Times is an adjustment to what constitutes late delivery of newspapers to distribution newsagents.

This adjustment means, I am told, that newsagents are now less likely to be compensated for late newspapers, that newsagents will have to carry more cost themselves for late newspapers. The costs can run at over $100 an hour depending on the size of the business. This is a considerable sum for a small business with slim (newspaper publisher controlled) margins.

If what I have heard is accurate, newsagents will be frustrated at being given a boost with one hand while the other hand takes money off the table. The new terms for the late payment fee means it will be paid less than previously.

Publishers need to be commercially responsible for late delivery of newspapers. Given their zero tolerance approach to services provided by newsagents it is only fair that newsagents have a zero tolerance flowing the other way.

i have never heard of being compensated for late papers ,does this happen in QLD . i have reqested some form of compensation at times for late deliverys on a sat only to be laughed at . paying 2 drivers to sit around for a couple of hours every sat starts to add up

I was having problems with late deliveries to my store for a few weeks in a row in december. i made the decision to delay the start time of my weekend driver to ensure the papers would be here everytime. it means he finishes after my contract says im allowed, but thats a risk i take.

Just wondering if you guys have let your reps know? We had our rep call ready to rip strips off me cause someone had complained that their paper was late until I told her that the papers had not arrived till 3:40am and explained it was impossible to wrap and deliver the papers by 6:30am. She quickly turned tail and ran.

I am a small agent who received a letter yesterday from HWT that told me “their” scheduled delivery times which are 60 minutes later than what we are receiving the papers at present.
I question why this is so ???

I also note that when this later delivery set time by HWT has the 90 minutes late claim time frame added to it – takes the ability to claim to way past 5.30am which was the claim time previously.

We are being screwed again by HWT and no thanks to VANA

we normally get the paper around 5:00 or 5:30 which is late enough. they send us scheduled delivery time which is 4:16 weekdays and 4:40nd 5:08 on weekends.
we can just claim late delivery when it is more than 90 minutes late and it is worse than before.

I know we all have individual delivery problems.

By this post I am endeavouring to point out the unfairness in the new process that screws Newsagents again.

Where are our State associations when it counts ?

VIC. You can’t imagine what is like delivery in a road with 80Km/H after 6:00am with no service road? it takes more than 2 hours to finish.

I was sent the wrong delivery time by the Herald Sun. I found out when I called to complain.
